Format
Qualifying Rounds:
Three qualifying rounds are played to determine the teams that will join the 16 clubs that are already seeded in the Champions League proper. The qualifying rounds are played in a knockout format on a home-and-away basis over two legs. The team that scores the most aggregate goals advances to the subsequent round.

Group Stage:
The 32 remaining teams are drawn into eight groups of four. Teams play home and away within their respective groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout rounds. The third place finishers in each group qualify for the Round of 32 of the current UEFA Cup.

Knockout Rounds:
The sixteen remaining teams are drawn into pairings for the knockout rounds. The knockout rounds are played on a home-and-away basis over two legs, with the team scoring the most aggregate goals advancing to the subsequent round. In the Round of 16, the group winners will have homefield advantage for the second leg. Pairings are redrawn for the quarterfinals.

Final:
The final is played as one single match at a neutral location, this year at Olympic Stadium, in Athens.
