The Brazilian Championship - Série B is disputed in a total points league format. The 20 teams play each other team twice, once home and once away, for a total of 38 matchdays. The team with the most points at the end of the season is declared the champion.

Promotion:
The top four teams at the end of the season are promoted to Série A.

Relegation:
The bottom four teams at the end of the season are relegated to Série C.
