Grêmio's offense, which is averaging three goals a game, took only two minutes to get on the board. Just 30 seconds into the game, Paulo Ramos broke into the area and was tripped up by Charles: penalty. Tcheco converted to give Grêmio the early lead: 1-0. In the 6th minute, Ramón found Paulo Ramos again but the defense prevented the score. In the 15th, it was Lipatin who just missed the goal with another well-taken shot. São Luiz, who found it difficult to get past Grêmio's midfield, got its first shot on goal in the 30th when Luizinho Viera sent a direct kick just out of reach for Faccin. Despite producing at least three more scoring chances, Grêmio was unable to convert, giving São Luiz a chance to tie the game just before halftime. In the final minute of the half, Evandro Brito broke into the area and hit the right post.
The second half began just like the first - with a Grêmio goal. In the 4th, Lucas received a pass from Ramón and crossed to the left side to Paulo Ramos, who had only to tap the ball into the net: Grêmio, 2-0. The score further destabilized São Luiz, who seemed lost on field and was unable to break the Tricolor coverage. Even the ejection of Jeovânio in the 31st for a hard tackle on Luizinho did not breathe any life into the home team. But just when it appeared that Grêmio was going to leave Ijuí with a clean sheet, Marcelo Oliveira dropped Ivo inside the area, giving São Luiz a penalty kick in the 47th. Luizinho Viera converted and prevented the shutout. Final: Grêmio, 2-1.
