1-13-07 - Grêmio Wins First Scrimmage

Grêmio won its first scrimmage of the year, beating local amateur team Flamengo-RS, 2-0, at Aristides Bertuol Stadium, in Bento Gonçalves. Pereira and Everton scored for the Tricolor. Grêmio will face São Paulo-RS in another friendly on Tuesday in preparation for its Gaúcho State Championship opener against São José-PA next Saturday.

Due to the extreme heat in the Serra Gaúcha, the game was played over three periods of 30 minutes rather than two 45-minute halves. Several starters did not play due to minor injuries, including Tuta, Léo Lima, Sandro and Douglas.

Despite dominating, Grêmio did not score until the second period. In the 4th, Tcheco sent a corner kick into the area and Pereira headed the ball into the back of the net: Grêmio, 1-0. A minute later, Galatto defended Flamengo’s only shot of the game. Grêmio put the contest away in the 19th when Bruno Teles found Everton open in the area: Grêmio, 2-0.
